Impact of Quality Schools on Real Estate Prices

There are many pieces to the puzzle when deciding a location to build or buy a house. Some of the puzzle pieces include:

  • Surrounding Community
  • School District
  • Job Security
  • Surrounding Housing Market
  • Tax Rates
  • Mortgage Rates

These are all things to consider when buying a house, but they may also be the reason for an increase in rates. Turns out school districts are a huge reason that real estate prices are shooting up.

Not only are the prices rising, but buyers are willing to pay extra dollars to be in a good school district. According to the 2017 National Association of Realtors®, "at 34 percent, buyers 36 years and younger continue to be the largest generational group of home buyers." It isn't a surprise that people in the prime of their child-bearing years are willing to spend more money to live in a good school district.

Cherokee County is no exception. There have been complaints about the rise in pricing for homes in Cherokee County. While this does prove to be problematic, it is a good problem to have as the rise in prices correlates to the success that Cherokee County is experiencing.

First-time buyers are flocking to Cherokee County because of the fast-growing community, the low taxes, and the excellent caliber of the school district.

The correlation between the rising need for homes, higher mortgage rates, and the continued betterment of the Cherokee County School District shows the impact of a good education in the community.

In 2018-2019 only some of CCSD's achievements include:

Whether it be in the form of high SAT/ACT scores, award-winning nutrition programs, or success of CCSD graduates in college, it is obvious that Cherokee County is cultivating an environment in which students are able to succeed. Investing in our school district and students is investing in our community. In the words of John F. Kennedy:

A rising tide lifts all the boats.
