The Importance of Teacher Appreciation

Can you think back to at least one teacher that impacted your life?

Whether you were in school 2 years ago or 20 years ago, there is probably more than one name popping in your head of a teacher that saw you, believed in you, and pushed you. The narrative is the same for so many people as they realize the power a teacher holds on their students.

Maybe a teacher showed you kindness when you needed a smiling face. Or maybe a teacher saw your potential and didn't accept mediocrity. The support of teachers comes in so many different forms, but they have an impact that extends far beyond the walls of the school.

Despite their advantageous pursuit of forming the young minds of the next generation, teachers are often overlooked and underappreciated.

According to Gallup, teachers who are regularly appreciated are:

  • More productive
  • More engaged at work
  • More likely to stay with their school
  • More likely to have a better relationship with students and parents

While it is obvious that appreciation is crucial, Gallup also recognizes that in 2017 a mere 29% of teachers felt recognized for their work.

In Cherokee County, these statistics aren't good enough and we want to improve teacher appreciation in our county. The Cherokee County School District is always looking for ways to make teachers feel seen and appreciated, just like they do for their students. CCEF raises money not only for students, but for teachers as well. Whether it be Teacher of the Year programs, grants, or teacher appreciation events, we are always looking for ways to better our schools in whatever way possible."I did a long-term sub job for Hasty last spring, and the PTA and administration did a really great job of appreciating us. During teacher appreciation week, we were given so many gifts and treats, and were shown so much kindness. We felt so loved, appreciated and thought of. I am now a full-time teacher here at Hasty, and I love it!"

- Mrs. Lauren Hindman, Hasty Elementary School

The appreciation that Cherokee County teachers receive is one of the many reasons that our school district is exceeding.

Kaitlyn Smith, Cherokee High School c/o 2019 graduate stated, "The teachers who work for the Cherokee County School District strive to do more than what is required. They strive to help students succeed, to push them to be the best students they can be, and to guide students towards receiving a higher education after they graduate from high school. Every teacher that I have had the pleasure of learning from in Cherokee County has showed me that they care about every single student that comes into their classroom. Cherokee County teachers truly open the door with endless opportunities for all of their students."

So, why do teachers deserve to be appreciated? Because they're world changers, encouragers, and have some of the biggest hearts you can find.

From Cherokee County Educational Foundation, thank you to each and every one of our teachers. You impact our children and community more than you can ever know.
